Paura, di pesca e una bella vita

This life is full of so many stories, lesson and experiences. Just when you think you have heard it all, the ante is upped and you’re sitting saying HOW? WHAT?

We all walk around with a fear of something. Please don’t tell me you do not because we all do, deep inside. Some are real and challenging and some will sneak up and take you by surprise.

Let’s look at that definition:

Fear is an emotion induced by a perceived threat which causes entities to quickly pull far away from it and usually hide. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger.
Regardless of which path we’re talking about, all roads lead to the hypothalamus. The portion of the brain controls the ancient survival reaction called the fight-or-flight response.

Functions of the hypothalamus

The hypothalamus is vital for living as it plays a very important role. It controls certain metabolic processes and other activities of the Autonomic Nervous System. It synthesizes and secretes neurohormones, often called hypothalamic-releasing hormones. These hypothalamic releasing hormones control and regulate the secretion of pituitary hormones.

Functions of the hypothalamus can be listed as:

  • controls the release of 8 major hormones by the pituitary gland
  • controls body temperature
  • control of food and water intake, hunger and thirst
  • control of sexual behavior and reproduction
  • control of daily cycles in physiological state and behaviour also known as circadian rhythm
  • mediation of emotional responses

The top 10 most common fears :

1. Fear of flying
2. Fear of public speaking
3. Fear of heights
4. Fear of the dark
5. Fear of intimacy
6. Fear of death
7. Fear of failure
8. Fear of rejection
9. Fear of spiders
10. Fear of commitment

What number are you looking at?  Most of those I think generally we don’t’ think of day-to-day, maybe just a little in the back of the mind. Some people live with one or another daily and some with a great degree of legitimate fear.

One that is not on the list and should be recently happened to a blogger bud. Can you imagine being his wife and looking out to the studio he was working and seeing lightning strike the building? Only to find out minutes later… it struck him?  He seems to be ok but shaken up is an understatement.

Statistics from the National Lightning Safety Institute

Lightning Strike Probabilities

4 CG flashes/km2/yr/average

House is 10 X 20 m2 = 200 m2

Direct strike to house when lightning hits within 10 m

Predicted strike (1200 X4)/1 000 000 =

4.8 X 10 -3 or once ea. 200 years

Therefore – 1 out of 200 house will be struck per year.

USA population = 280,000,000

1000 lightning victims/year/average

Odds = 1 : 280,000 of being struck by lightning

So let’s put lightning on the list after that news. I used to really get scared of T & L storms but after living in Florida I got over that fear. You can’t get away from them and they are more intense.

Fear is a crippler. I know.  But there are things you can do to work through it. If your fear is taking over your life there is no shame in seeking help. Start with talking to a good friend about it. If it’s bigger than that help is out there. Work your way through it. Surround yourself with a good group of supportive friends.

Remember, love and fear cannot occupy the same space.

Work on letting the love in, and let the fear go.

Fishing … hopefully I’ll have a few good reports real soon. 😉

and lastly  “A beautiful Life” …. and that my friends is ultimately what we all want. It a journey we are all on equally.

May your days be filled with love and happiness.

This instrumental version of a song I probably would not have never listened to is ear candy! Enjoy!
